Research has documented phonological awareness as an important skill that good readers possess and is lacking in struggling readers.̴Ì_ These cards engage students in the phonemic awareness task of segmentation.̴Ì_ They help students compare two words, represented by pictures, and identify which sound is the same - beginning, middle, or ending.̴Ì_ This activity is aligned to the Reading Foundational Skills: Phonological Awareness and Phonics and Word Recognition.̴Ì_ The cards may be used with partners or as a teacher-led activity with a group of students.
