There are many functions of the -e at the end of words. The silent -e is called a marker. It's a marker of a long vowel sound. It makes the nearest vowel say its alphabet name - a, e, i, o, u. This deck will encourage students to focus on how one silent-e will change the vowel sound of a word. This activity is aligned to the Reading Foundational Skill: Phonics and Word Recognition. The cards may be used with partners or as a teacher-led activity with a group of students.
